Brief

A Child For All (ACFA), a nonprofit dedicated to providing holistic support for vulnerable children and orphans in Mali, approached us with a pressing need to transform their online presence. Their mission encompassed critical areas like shelter, education, nutrition, and medical care, not only for the children within their care but also for the broader community. The challenge at hand was to revamp their outdated website, enhance their visibility online, and create a compelling platform for fundraising purposes.

The organization's existing website no longer effectively conveyed the depth and impact of their work. It lacked vibrancy, interactivity, and a strong visual narrative. ACFA's commitment to grassroots efforts and their close connection with the communities they served needed to be prominently showcased online. They sought to leverage digital channels to not only share their mission with the world but also to generate crucial funds to sustain their vital initiatives.

Solution

To address all of ACFA's online needs, we developed a comprehensive solution that encompassed multiple facets of their online presence.

The first crucial step was to completely overhaul their outdated website. We introduced a vibrant and visually appealing design that utilized bright colors to reflect the hope and positivity inherent in their mission. We also incorporated a wealth of photographs and narratives that captured the essence of their work, bringing to life the stories of the children and the communities they served. Furthermore, we modernized and streamlined their recurring donation process by incorporating modern tools and user-friendly features into their website.

By using compelling storytelling and imagery, the revamped website highlighted ACFA's grassroots, community-oriented work and made donating to ACFA's cause easy and efficient.

In addition to the website redesign, we devised a strategic SEO plan to enhance their online visibility. This included the creation of an SEO-rich blog integrated into their website, allowing them to regularly share engaging content that resonated with their audience and attracted relevant traffic, such as updates on the children, Malian current events, and more.

Recognizing the power of humanitarian support on the internet, we initiated GoFundMe campaigns that aligned with their mission. These campaigns were strategically crafted to leverage online traffic and encourage donations from a broader online audience.

Through this comprehensive solution, we not only revitalized A Child For All's online presence but also enabled them to reach a wider audience, effectively share their mission, and significantly enhance their fundraising efforts. The new website and digital strategies aligned seamlessly with their grassroots ethos, empowering them to continue making a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children and communities in Mali.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The famous Adivasi slogan of Komaram Bheem, jal, jungle, jameen (water, forest, land), provides the framework of this holistic rural development project. What started as a water management project eventually grew to cover livelihood and community development. Our project touched:

  • Natural resource management, with collective water budgeting, harvesting, and management, as well as farmland management for agricultural livelihoods
  • Women’s and tribal communities’ livelihoods, as we established a supply chain for women to create value-added products from water-efficient agriculture.

In addition to primary project work, we also did extensive cultural documentation, grassroots awareness on sexual assault and legal recourse, and research on caste and gender disparities.

FUNDRAISING

During my tenure at Seva Mandir, I spearheaded a successful fundraising strategy by writing grants to major global funders, securing a remarkable 15 crore INR (approximately 2.5 million USD) in contributions.

Additionally, I conducted extensive grassroots research to identify areas of greatest need and formulated a comprehensive 5-year plan for allocating funds across three major regional blocks in Rajasthan, ensuring the most effective utilization of resources to uplift rural communities and foster sustainable development.

Through diligent grant writing and strategic engagement with donors, we achieved significant financial support, enabling the organization to continue its impactful work in addressing critical social and developmental challenges in rural Rajasthan, India.

VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS

Sample mini water budgeting project

In my mini-project, I conducted a detailed analysis of water budgeting and management practices at the village level in Parwat Kheri, Rajasthan. This comprehensive study delved into the community's water resources, consumption patterns, and conservation efforts, aiming to identify potential challenges and propose sustainable solutions to enhance water availability and usage efficiency in the region. The project shed light on the significance of localized water management strategies to address water scarcity and support the well-being of the residents in Parwat Kheri.

Our academic paper, co-authored with Laxmi Thakur and Varsha Rathore, explores the critical importance of providing rural women in Southern Rajasthan with leadership spaces, alongside capacity-building training. By presenting our research at the conference "FUTURE OF WOMEN ’20: The Next Generation of Women: Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities, and Equal Participation," we shed light on the significance of empowering women to become fully realized leaders within their communities. The paper advocates for a holistic approach to gender equality, emphasizing the need for both skills development and opportunities for women to take on leadership roles, fostering a more inclusive and progressive society.
